BIO

An American contemporary abstract artist working in La Romana, Dominican Republic.  His work employs a combination of mixed media on various surfaces, painting primarily in acrylic with additions of colored charcoals, graphite & oil pastels to accentuate the work.  Color and composition play an important role aesthetically for Cary, they are always front of mind and a prominent jumping off point for starting a new work,  His paintings are often collaged with simple materials such as wax, wire, tape, rubber and other found objects.

Cary’s inspiration is found in such nuances as the clarity of blue found in ocean depths while sailing far offshore, the reach of sky at altitude or the density in impoverished barrios of places such as Nairobi or Mumbai & in his vast post card collection.

Schooled and raised in a cosmopolitan ski town in Colorado’s central Rocky Mountains, Cary had early exposure to an International populace writhe with multinational influence & ideas.  Upon finishing high school Cary set out on novel and unknown paths that would take him west to California, south to sail throughout the Caribbean including a trans Atlantic crossing eventually cumulating in a life on both sides of the Atlantic. Living in New York City segued to living in Paris & southern France near Arles.  Easily inspired within his environs he began painting in earnest, at first primarily for himself but soon finding a captive audience leading to several commissioned works and a small well received solo show in St Tropez on the Cote d’Azur.  More recently (2023) Cary achieved his first solo exposition in Latin America with Galeria Arte San Ramon & the sponsored  arts program "This Is Lexus" with Lexus Dominicana as 1 0f 2 selected artist's for 2023 in the Dominican Republic.
